· When driving your child to school, don't take off the moment him or her steps out of the car. Make sure they get inside the school or to the point that they are with other students and teachers. Never feel pressure to pull away just because cars are lined up behind them. Your child's safety comes first!
· Encourage your child to use a buddy system and stick together with friends that act responsibly. And make sure all these friends are kids you know and trust. Go out of your way to meet their parents, this way you can put a face to the name and know who and what is around your child.
· Teach your child to always be alert and aware of their surroundings, but do it a non-fearful way. Educate and empower them - don't scare them!
· Explain to your child to be cautious of people they may or may not know well. Instructor your child never to approach any vehicle or answer any questions from adults or older kids that they don't know. Teach them the golden role: Don't Talk - Walk! And when they walk explain to them about safe zones and safe people.
· Tell your child to trust their own 'internal' alarm and if they sense trouble or nervousness from a so called friendly stranger have them hurry to the nearest public or populated place for help.
· If your child is alone or with a friend and are approached by a person or persons in a vehicle have them hurry away from the vehicle in the opposite direction that the vehicle is going.
