The contestants of the show were picked in accordance to their look, skill, resume and interview process. The show was advertised on the web through different security and training sites as well as through mass emails to personnel and /or trainers within the security, military, law enforcement and executive professions. Over 600 plus resumes were submitted in various ways and out of those resumes the first 12 contestants where chosen.

Once chosen each contestant spoke with the host, Tom Patire, in person or on the telephone. Mr. Patire basically briefed each contestant in accordance to what the show “Protect ME If YOU can was about. To keep everything fair ALL contestants where told the same information even though some tried to extract ‘additional’ information.

When Tom was asked about the chosen 12 his reply was as follows – “They are unique to say the least! They will represent the profession well because they have all different looks, abilities and sizes which will portray the new image of today’s private protector!”
